Strong winds take down huge tree in Carlisle

UPDATE @ 5:53 p.m.: A large tree fell between a house and the power lines on Dian Drive in Carlisle.

Richard Dietz, who lives at the residence, said he was in the house when it happened and heard a loud thump.

No one was injured and no property damage was reported from the tree’s collapse.

INITIAL REPORT:

The thunderstorms and high winds that blew through the area this afternoon knocked over trees and power lines in Butler and Warren counties.

  • In Carlisle, at least one road is closed, police said. Jamaica Road, north of Central Avenue, will be closed until Duke Energy can respond to the area, police said at 4:15 p.m. today. Police said motorists should use caution in the area. There are numerous large limbs lying in the roadways and officers are removing them, they said.

  • In Oxford Twp., a large tree down and power lines are down on Indian Creek Road. Drivers are advised to avoid the area while crews are at work.
  • In Madison Twp., a large tree branch is blocking Hursh Road between West Alexandria Road and Ohio 122.
