A Butler County woman is slated to be arraigned in Middletown Municipal Court on a petty theft charge after it was discovered she removed the security devices from clothing.

Tara Wood, 27, of Hamilton was stopped by Kohl’s store security personnel about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 26 as she was walking out of the store concealing several items in a purse. Store security alleges that Wood entered the store located at 6825 Roosevelt Parkway, with an empty purse and walked out of a fitting room with the purse filled with several items, according to the police report.

When store security confronted her, Wood allegedly tried to run but was apprehended by two Middletown police officers. The store security officer said Wood had left magnets in the fitting room which he believed was used to take the magnetic devices off of the clothing.

As police searched her purse, they found the stolen clothing and a needle, the report said. Her boyfriend who was with her was not charged, but both were issued trespassing notices, the report said.

Wood was given a criminal summons and was charged with petty theft, criminal tools and drug abuse instruments.

She is scheduled to be arraigned on the misdemeanor charges at 9 a.m. Oct. 10 in Middletown Municipal Court.
