Two arrested after meth bust at Middletown motel

Police have arrested two people following Friday afternoon’s investigation into a methamphetamine lab at the Dixie Motel on Cincinnati-Dayton Road.

At about 2:15 p.m. Friday, members of the Middletown Division of Police’s Special Operations Unit were contact concerning a possible meth lab at the motel at 2760 Cincinnati-Dayton Road. Officers smelled a strong chemical odor coming from Room 2, which was occupied by caretakers Julie Benjamin and Jason Combs, according to a report released Tuesday by police.

Benjamin told officers there were chemicals in the room for the manufacture of meth, but there was not an active cook, according to the report.

When a search warrant was executed, officers found a clear Mason jar with fluid inside, as well as a generator and Coleman fluid, also commonly used for meth making. Two pots containing what is believed to be meth were seized.

Benjamin, 44, was charged with illegal manufacture of drugs, a second-degree felony, and illegal assembly of chemicals, a third-degree felony. She remains housed at the Middletown City Jail and is scheduled to appear in Middletown Municipal Court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

Combs, 40, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when he was found to be in possession of what is believed to be a meth pipe. He too remains housed in the Middletown jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
