Last of 5 Fairfield murder defendants sentenced

The Butler County prosecutor says the five defendants in the 2012 drug deal that turned into murder had their days in court and now have years in prison to ponder their actions.

Judge Patricia Oney sentenced Monday the last defendant in the 2012 murder of Julian Slaven. Christia Frymire was sentenced to seven years in prison for being the driver in the botched armed robbery in Fairfield. A jury found the 20-year-old Fairfield woman not guilty of murder after a four-day trial in October but guilty of aggravated robbery and burglary, after eight hours of deliberations.

The other four defendants all received murder convictions after they conspired to rob 19-year-old Slaven of marijuana and money. After the trial, Frymire’s attorney Melynda Cook said her client was “out of the loop” and didn’t know about the robbery plot. She did drive the group to Slaven’s home on Judy Drive.

Prosecutor Mike Gmoser said drug deals gone bad are becoming more and more prevalent here and across the country, because the people involved just don’t consider the consequences of their actions.

“Bad things happen, even to the minor players, and that’s what happened here,” he said. “All of the defendants threw their lives away and they got their days in court and now they have their years in prison to think about the injustice of what they did to the young man that was killed… Unfortunately they don’t think beyond their nose and in this case they threw it all away for a little bit of pot.”

Frymire’s boyfriend was the only other defendant to take his case to trial. Jerry Eacholes, 27, of Middletown, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, after a jury found him guilty of murder and aggravated robbery and burglary. The trigger man, Joseph Goodin, 26, of Middletown; Misty Williams, 20, of Hamilton and Anthony Givens, 23, of Hamilton, were all sentenced to 18 years in prison after they pleaded guilty to the murder and other charges.
