Cincinnati man convicted in fatal shooting at Fairfield bar

Demarko Merriweather found guilty of murder, felonious assault.

A Butler County jury found Demarko J. Merriweather guilty of murder and felonious assault Friday after two days of jury deliberations.

Merriweather, 25, of Cincinnati was charged in the fatal shooting of Vincent Brown during a melee at Wise Guys Bar and Grill in Fairfield in March 2015. He is one of three men charged in the crime and his trial began March 7. Merriweather is scheduled to be sentenced March 11 by Judge Michael Oster.

A juror was dismissed on Friday morning after they disclosed they had done some online “Googling” of a location mentioned in the trial. An alternate replaced that juror and a verdict was reached a few hours later, according to prosecutors.

Shots were fired just before 1:30 a.m. March 22 outside the Dixie Highway bar and Brown, 55, of Pleasanthill Drive in Cincinnati, was later found dead. Another woman was reportedly shot in the leg, according to Fairfield police.

A fight began inside the bar, then spilled out into the parking lot where several fights began, according to police and prosecutors.

According to the police report, Brown was found dead in the parking lot and had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Two other men are also charged in the shooting incident.

Christopher J. Crockett, 27, of Cincinnati, is charged with felonious assault in the shooting incident. His trial began Monday in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

The third man Raphael Knight, 26, of Cincinnati, who is charged with felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons under disability in connection with the incident, is scheduled to stand trial April 5.
