Body, car pulled from West Chester pond

Emergency crews from West Chester Twp. and Butler County recovered a body and a black Nissan from a pond Monday afternoon.

Dive crews worked most of the afternoon under the surface of the pond in front of Cornerstone Consolidated, a business on West Chester Road, and a large crane finally pulled the vehicle out around 4 p.m.

A body was located about a half hour later with the use of sonar.

No one witnessed the car going into the pond, according to township spokeswoman Barb Wilson.

“Police were called to investigate some property damage at Cornerstone Consolidated,” she said. “They got out here and there were some shrubs that had been damaged and they noticed tire tracks going into the pond.”

Emergency crews used a giant red tarp to cover the four-door vehicle once it was pulled from the water.

The incident is under investigation, Wilson said.

There has been no word from the coroner’s office regarding the incident
