Contech acquires assets of Kansas-based company

A Butler County-based company said Thursday it will increase the services it provides in Kansas and Missouri, thanks to its second acquisition this month.

Contech Engineered Solutions acquired certain assets of Paola, Kan-based Kahn Culvert Inc., a privately-held company that produces corrugated metal culvert drainage products including pipe, slotted drain systems, end sections, joints, fittings and bands. Contech will continue operations of the manufacturing facility in Paola, about 45 miles southwest of Kansas City.

The company of 1,500 employees employs 220 people at its West Chester Twp. facility. It is listed by the 2012 Deloitte Cincinnati USA 100 list as the 14th largest private company by revenues in Greater Cincinnati.

Kahn Culvert is known for its “solid customer relationshiops,” according to Ron Keating, Contech’s president and CEO.

Based in West Chester Twp., Contech makes products and provides services for the civil engineering industry, including bridges, drainage, erosion control, retaining walls, sanitary sewer, stormwater and wastewater treatment products.

“The acquisition of Kahn Culvert’s manufacturing capability provides Contech with a stronger presence in the Kansas and Missouri markets as well as an increased ability to serve other surrounding states,” said Bill Delbridge, director of marketing. “ Locally, the acquired assets and production capability will be integrated into our existing drainage business and there is no impact on headcount in West Chester Twp.”

The price of purchase is not being disclosed, Delbridge said.

Earlier this month, Contech announced it had purchased the corrugated metal pipe assets, including machinery, equipment and inventory of Titan Construction Products, located in Placitas, N.M. Titan’s facility primarily served markets in the states of New Mexico and Arizona.

“The purchase of assets from Titan is part of our ongoing investment in our drainage business,” Delbridge said.

Also this month, the company announced it had signed a strategic agreement with SEKISUI SPR Group, a pipe rehabilitation products company.

The agreement, which covers the United States and Canada, gives Contech the exclusive license for the next 20 years to manufacture, promote and sell to authorized installers SPR PE, a spiral-wound high-density polyethylene product that is used to restore the hydraulic efficiency, reliability and integrity of aging sewers, stormdrains and culverts.
