OSHA investigating partial building collapse on Liberty Way

West Chester Twp. officials have confirmed the Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating a building collapse that trapped a construction worker at the Towns of Wetherington Tuesday.

A construction worker was rescued Tuesday afternoon from a partial building collapse at a new apartment complex in West Chester Twp. next to the Planet Fitness on Liberty Way, near Liberty Center.

The township released three emergency 911 calls with workers saying part of the building was coming down and a man was trapped, “we got a guy, he’s hurt really bad,” one of the callers said.

Spokeswoman Barb Wilson said the man was rescued and transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. She said one exterior framed wall of a three-story apartment building collapsed at around 3 p.m.

On Wednesday she said no other information was available and OSHA is investigating.

The complex has been under construction for about 10 months.

In a statement, Fischer Homes said it will cooperate with officials and the worker’s employers to determine a cause.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the framing contractor working on-site at Towns of Wetherington, and we wish him a quick recovery,” the statement says.
