Cause of Fairfield Skyline Chili fire now known

The cause of Wednesday’s early morning fire that destroyed a Skyline Chili restaurant in Fairfield has been determined to be from a power attic fan that shorted out, according to city officials.

Investigators from Fairfield’s Fire Department and the restaurant owner’s insurance company worked together Thursday to determine the cause.

There were no injures in the blaze.

Dennis Kurlas, owner of the Skyline Chili on Hick Boulevard just off Ohio 4 in Fairfield, said he received a call from Fairfield police at about 2:30 a.m. about the fire.

“Restaurant was up in flames,” he said of what he saw when he arrived at the scene.

No one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire, he said.

The restaurant will be rebuilt, he said.

“It’s our livelihood. This is what we do,” Kurlas told the Journal-News.
