The center also received Healogics’ Robert A. Warriner III, MD, Clinical Excellence Award for having patient satisfaction rates higher than 92% and a healing rate of at least 91% in less than 30 median days to heal, for a minimum of two consecutive years, according to a news release.
Atrium’s wound care center offers specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, and other chronic wounds that haven’t healed in reasonable periods of time.
One leading-edge treatment at the center are negative-pressure wound therapy, in which fluids and infection are drawn from wounds, using special bandages sealed over wounds with pressure applied by a gentle vacuum pump.
For deep sores on feet, the center uses total-contact casts, which are like regular casts except they closely contour to the entire foot to distribute weight along the foot’s entire sole, to better allow the skin to heal.
Another method used is bioengineered skin-substitutes, which use anti-infective living human skin.
Atrium’s wound care center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which works by surrounding the patient completely with pure oxygen to promote healing.
“Atrium and the wound care center take great pride in providing innovative services to our patients,” said Dr. Keith Bricking, president. “Atrium Medical Center offers a wide range of nationally recognized services at a convenient location close to home for Butler and Warren county residents.”
The wound care center at Atrium also won the Warriner award in 2019 and distinguished center of the year in 2018. In 2017, it was named the nationwide top-performing center of the year.
