Thousands of guests are gearing up to get muddy and messy as part of the ever-popular Mud Mania event.
“I describe it as the messiest family-fun around,” said Kelly Barkley, senior manager of community relations for the Butler County MetroParks.
She said, “That’s really what it is all about — who can get the muddiest. They try to get muddy, and the muddier the better.”
Barkley said the annual event will feature a variety of mud-themed events, such as a mud slide that leads into in a mud pit, mud pools, a Mud Mania obstacle course, mud volleyball and a Little Mudders area for younger children.
Presented by MetroParks of Butler County, the two-day event will be held at Rentschler Forest on Friday., Aug. 5, and Sat., Aug. 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., both days. Registration is requested, but walk-ins are welcome. Guests of all ages participate – from children to their parents and grandparents.
This is the 10th year for the event, which has continued to grow in popularity each year. Last year, the event attracted about 2,000 participants.
Durable shoes are required. Flip-flops or bare feet will not be permitted. Guests may also want to bring a change of clothing. Participants ages 18 and younger will be required to have a parent or legal guardian’s signature to be admitted, and participants of all ages will need to sign a waiver/hold harmless release form prior to participation.
A MetroParks park permit is required, and the permit can be obtained upon arrival. Park permits are free for Butler County residents. A permit for nonresidents is $5, daily and $10, annually.
“We also want to thank the Fairfield Township Fire Department. They get everything wet and muddy, and they also help to clean everybody off with the water. And, we want to thank The Fairfield Township Fire Corps, a volunteer group, who helps us man the obstacle course, making sure everyone has a safe, fun time,” Barkley said.
