McDonald's goes bacon crazy: Cheesy Bacon Fries, Big Mac Bacon and Quarter Pounder Bacon

McDonald's is going hog wild.

The chain is launching Cheesy Bacon Fries on Jan. 30, along with the Big Mac Bacon burger and Quarter Pounder Bacon burger, the company said Wednesday.

As the fast-food chain explained in its official announcement, "'That's too much bacon,' said no one ever."

Except maybe a cardiologist.

The trio of new menu items will be available for a limited time at participating U.S. restaurants.

Here are the deets about the trio of new menu items:

  • Cheesy Bacon Fries: Fries topped with cheddar cheese sauce and smoked bacon bits
  • Big Mac Bacon: Three pieces of Applewood smoked bacon with two beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun
  • Quarter Pounder Bacon: Three pieces of Applewood smoked bacon atop a burger, which at most restaurants in contiguous U.S. is made with fresh beef

"People love bacon, and they love our iconic Big Mac, fresh beef Quarter Pounder burgers and World Famous Fries, so we had to see what would happen if we combined all that tastiness," McDonald’s manager of culinary innovation Michael Haracz said in a statement. "As a bacon enthusiast myself, I’m proud to say that we’ve done right by bacon fans."

American consume an average of 17.9 pounds of bacon a year, according to the National Pork Board.

Dec. 30 was National Bacon Day.
