BUTLER COUNTY

Camp Pathways Helps Grieving Children

Children who have lost a loved one have an opportunity to experience support, sharing and learning about grief through a program for children ages 7 to 17 presented by Pathways of Hope, the grief counseling service of Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. Advance registration is required. Camp Pathways offers an overnight camp experience and camp activities such as swimming, campfires, arts and crafts, canoeing, fishing, a climbing wall, rope course and music. In addition to these traditional camp activities, children participate in grief support activities and a moving memorial service honoring the loved ones lost by campers. Held at the Camp Joy Outdoor Education Center in Warren County, the 2013 Camp Pathways program will be offered Friday, June 21 and ends Sunday, June 23. Advance registration is recommended as campers are accepted on a space available basis. Children can attend regardless of whether Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties was involved in providing care to a family member. Fees for the camp are $20 for one camper; $30 for two campers; $40 for three or more. Scholarships are available to assist those with financial need. Oxford Great Outdoors Adventure Camp

Oxford Parks and Recreation Departments’ Great Outdoors Adventure Camp is a supervised summer program for children entering K-6th grade in Fall 2013. Hamilton Girls Inc. Summer Camp

The Girls Inc. Summer Program is for girls ages 8 and older and will be held June 10-Aug. 9. This program will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the YWCA, located at 244 Dayton Street in Hamilton. The camp will offer age-appropriate learning in a safe and educational environment and activities will focus on various subjects including media, sports, leadership, art, safety, technology, community action and team building. Girls will hear from guest speakers, take trips to the library and swimming pool and more. Camp is $25 per week per girl. There are a limited number of girls that can be served so we encourage parents to register early to ensure that space is available. Families can register for individual weeks or the entire summer. LEGO Mindstorm Robotics Camp

LEGO Mindstorm Robotics Camp, ages 9-12. Explore robotics as you work in teams to program LEGO Mindstorm robots, using both the NXT and the RCX controllers. Build and teach a robot to “think” when you add sensors that can take in information and influence the robot’s decisions. Fairfield Dance Camp

Dance Camp, ages 6-16. June 10-14, Monday to Friday, either 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or 4:30-8:30 p.m., Community Arts Center, 411 Wessel Drive. Dancers will be divided into groups according to age. Dance warm-ups, crafts, games and dance routines. Our camp will end with our final performance on Friday at noon or 7 p.m. (depending on which class you are in) in the Community Arts Center Theatre. Campers must bring a sack lunch/dinner daily, wear shorts or dancewear and appropriate footwear. Each dancer will receive a Dance Camp T-shirt. Fairfield Break-A-Leg Camp

Break-A-Leg Camp, ages 7-12, June 17-28, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Community Arts Center Theatre, 411 Wessel Drive. Half-day camp covering the basics of theater such as blocking, projection and character development. Campers will get to experience the entire production process from the auditions to the performance and get a basic knowledge of costume design, set design, directing and stage management. They will showcase their talent with a 20-30 minute age-appropriate play, presented on our stage on the evening of June 28. Fairfield Cupcake Cakes and More Camp

Cupcake Cakes and More, ages 6-12, July 1-3, Monday to Wednesday, 1-4 p.m., Community Arts Center Children’s Room, 411 Wessel Drive. Each day you will be taught how to decorate different cupcakes and how to make different types of icing. The last day you will learn how to decorate a cupcake cake with a 4th of July theme or design your own. All supplies will be provided to complete one Red, White and Blue cupcake cake. You may need to purchase additional supplies if you are designing your own. Cost is $60 for residents and $65 for non-residents. This camp is designed for children to have fun and express their creativity. Fairfield Youth Conditioning Camp

Fitness and Athletic Youth Conditioning Camp, ages 9-16, July 15-25, Monday to Thursday, 9-10:30 a.m., Community Arts Center, 411 Wessel Drive. This Fitness Program is designed to introduce fitness and athleticism in a fun and effective way and is an opportunity for youth to build athletic confidence, and get fit. The Program is designed for all levels of athletic and non-athletic boys and girls in an outdoor setting. Your child’s benefits will include: improved coordination, agility and speed, decrease body fat, increase body mass, strength, power, endurance, flexibility, balance and posture. Summer Camp Wheel, ages 11-16, July 22-26, Monday to Friday, 1-4 p.m., Community Arts Center Art Studio, 411 Wessel Drive. This camp is designed for preteens/teens to have fun and express their creativity while learning how to use the pottery wheel. Cheerleading Camp, ages 4-8, July 22-26, Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to noon, Community Arts Center Community Room C, 411 Wessel Drive. Cheerleaders will learn stretches, cheer warm-ups, sideline cheers, cheer dances and beginner tumbling. Musical Theatre Camp

Children’s Musical Theatre Camp, ages 10-16, July 22-Aug. 2, 1-4:30 p.m., Community Arts Center Theatre, 411 Wessel Drive. Be a part of this year’s musical production of “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” This camp includes training in singing, dance, and character development. Performances Aug. 9-11 at the Fairfield Community Arts Center Theater. Audition packets must be picked up at time of enrollment and auditions will be held on July 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. Parents should plan to attend auditions with their child. Students must be enrolled to audition. Camp includes T-shirts, Kids in the Spotlight bags and/or production patches and water bottles. YMCA Camp Kern Summer Overnight Camps

For kids ages 5-16 years old, Camp Kern offers residential and semi-residential accommodations, a 485-acre facility, and a chance to escape the city and reconnect with nature. Summer Camps Grades 7-12 (Butler and Warren Counties)

College Prep Summer Camps for Butler and Warren County students entering grades 7-12. Two local Educational Service Centers in conjunction with Sinclair Community College are hosting summer programming options for youth entering grades 7-12. Digital Photography, Comedy Camp, and Guitar Building are all being offered as half-day options to give students new experiences this summer that may spark future career interests and opportunities. A full day STEM camp is also available for incoming sophomores, juniors and seniors using a Waterbotics module. This camp will provide students a fun environment for learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while building aquatic Lego robots that will participate in various challenges.
