Series with new name starts on June 1.

West Chester’s Thursday night summer concert series is getting a “makeover” as First Financial Bank presents “The Takeover,” beginning on Thursday, June 1 with SWAGG. The 14-week concert series will run through Thursday, Aug. 31.

Along with a new name, the township’s popular series, previously known as the First Financial Bank After-Hours on The Square @ Union Centre, will bring themed nights to the community.

“We wanted to reinvent the activity, speaking to a millennial audience with a high-energy vibe, so we renamed them ‘The Takeover.’ So, each week, there is a loose theme that will be carried out through the evening,” said Barb Wilson, spokeswoman for West Chester Twp.

She said, “For example, on June 1, there will be a Butler County Visitors Bureau Takeover, focusing on The Donut Trail. National Doughnut Day is on June 2, so on June 1, we’re going to highlight Butler County’s Donut Trail at The Takeover.”

“On June 8, FC Cincinnati is going to Takeover The Square. We’ll feature some of the players from FC Cincinnati. We’ll be giving away some swag, and the focus will be soccer. We’re hoping kids that play soccer, soccer families, and people that work in the area that love soccer can come in their favorite team jerseys or their FC Cincinnati jerseys and enjoy a great night with music, beer and food, of course, and come out to The Square and celebrate that,” Wilson said.

The concert series lineup will include a mix of bands new to the series, such as Jamison Road, Billy Brown Band and The Sly Band combined with old favorites like The Menus and 3 Piece Revival.

“We’re having back some of the favorites our residents ask for every year — SWAGG, DV8, Color Blind, Lt Dan’s New Legs and Naked Karate Girls. Those are some of the bands that are always requested, and we are happy to bring them back again this year,” Wilson said.

West Chester’s Thursday night, summer concert series started in 2009. The series has continued to grow and evolve to attract on average of 500 guests or more each Thursday.

Wilson said, “West Chester is a community where people love to congregate, celebrate and hang-out with neighbors, friends and co-workers, so every season, West Chester is excited to offer that opportunity. I like to think of The Square as the community’s family room.”

DogBerry and FigLeaf, and other craft breweries will be on The Square this season. On some evenings, three to four of Ohio’s wineries will be represented at the event.
