New York City-based duo Ron DeStefano and Melissa Giattino of Two On Tap will take audiences back in time to a place where famous couples such as Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland and Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers took the stage by storm.

Two On Tap: The All-Singing, All-Dancing Tap Sensation will be at the Fitton Center on Saturday, April 8, for the final Fitton Playhouse performance of the season.

The evening will showcase two acts of high energy song and dance — with a lot of comedy and a lot of heart, said Giattino.

The variety show with tap dance choreography will feature jazz selections, tunes from the American Songbook as well as several musical surprises.

“Both Ron and I agree that our main goal is to make people forget their troubles, put their feet up and enjoy the show, and get lost in it for an evening,” Giattino said.

The family-friendly evening will offer audiences of all ages a trip down memory lane with songs such as “I Got Rhythm,” written by George Gershwin.

“We complement one another, because we’ve known each other for so many years, and we probably know each other better than any other person in our lives, because we travel and perform so much together,” Giattino said.

DeStefano comes to the show from a great singing background, and Giattino comes from an extensive dance background. Her parents owned a dance studio since the time she was 2 years old.

“For me, the thing I enjoy the most is bringing this style of singing and tapping to people all over the world. It almost feels like a mission, because it’s not done that often,” Giattino said.

“When I see the looks on the audiences’ faces, and they’re laughing and clapping, that brings Ron and I the most joy,” she said.

DeStefano and Giattino have been doing the show for about eight years. Prior to that, Giattino was part of a Broadway production called “42nd Street.” Also, she was featured as a member of the Radio City Rockettes. DeStefano is an award-winning tenor, who showcased his skills at Lincoln Center and on the Broadway National Tour of “Fiddler on the Roof.”

“I started working on the show number by number, not really knowing that it would end up touring the world. It started out as a passion project for the fun of creativity, and little did I know that years later, Ron and I would come together and take the show on the road,” Giattino said.

The variety show has had a comeback on television with shows such as “America’s Got Talent.” A lot of people on the show are singing, dancing, tumbling, they are eating fire, and dog acts. It’s very reminiscent of Vaudeville, which is where Two On Tap’s art form was born.

“We bring that kind of Vaudeville style into today’s world by performing live,” Giattino said.
