Cincy Summer Beerfest

Sample over 300 craft beers of all tastes and styles from across the region at this annual festival, located in the center of downtown Cincinnati’s restaurant and entertainment district. All proceeds benefit the Big Joe Duskin Music Foundation, which supports music programs for disadvantaged elementary and junior high schools. Check it out on Fountain Square, 520 Vine St., Cincinnati, on September 9-10. Festival hours are 6-11 p.m. Friday, and 3-11 p.m. Saturday. Cincy Comicon

This comic book convention that pointedly devotes itself exclusively to the medium of comics will be featuring dozens of prominent writers and illustrators, including Brian Azzarello (“Batman,” “Wonder Woman,”), Nick Bradshaw (“Wolverine and the X-Men”), Jenny Frison (“Red Sonja,” “Vampirella,”), Katie Cook (“Fraggle Rock,” “Gronk: A Monster’s Story) and the Cincy Comicon co-founder himself, Tony Moore (“The Walking Dead”). Also expect to see Cincy Comicon staples like Bricks on the Banks, a costume contest, and panel discussions. Check it out at Northern Kentucky Convention Center, 1 W. MainStrasse Village Oktoberfest

Enjoy a smaller but less chaotic Oktoberfest in this German-American shopping and dining district in Northern Kentucky. There’ll be tons of German and American food, craft beers, arts and crafts, and children’s activities and entertainment. Check it out at MainStrasse Village, just off the Fifth St. exit in Covington, Kentucky, on Sept. 9-11. Fest hours are 5-11:30 p.m. Friday, noon-11:30 p.m. Saturday, and noon-9 p.m. Sunday. Ohio’s Hospice of Butler & Warren counties: 5K Remembrance Walk/Run

The proceeds for this 5K walk/run will go to at-home care and services for patients suffering from life-threatening illnesses. David Shaw’s Big River Get Down

This all-day music festival in Hamiltoon will feature funk, soul, blues and rock bands. David Shaw is from Hamilton, and his band, The Revivalists, based in New Orleans, will headline. Midnight Madness Marathon

Just to be clear, it ends at midnight. Choose your method for tackling the 6.55-mile course around Hamilton (marathon relay, marathon, 10K or 5K), then prepare to soothe your exertions afterward with a craft beer and an awards ceremony. If you have any energy left over, you can walk across the street to catch the end of the Big River Get Down Festival. The start line is at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, 101 S. Cincinnati Cheese Festival

This traveling festival is a must-attend for cheese fanatics. Old West Festival

This ninth annual festival takes place at an authentic, year-round Old West town in the middle of the country. See period interpreters, historical characters, and famous Hollywood movie gun battles replayed before your eyes.
