Kings Island will host the 21st annual SpiritSong festival this weekend.

The highly anticipated, three-day contemporary Christian music festival will feature national headlining artists, including Chris Tomlin Thursday, Third Day Friday and TobyMac Saturday. Doors open at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The festival showcases major acts from across the country at Kings Island’s 10,000-seat Timberwolf Amphitheatre, an outdoor, reserved-seating venue.

“(The festival) features the most popular contemporary Christian music,” said Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig. “We have guest speakers and then, after each of the performances, you’re able to go out into the park. …You can enjoy not only the main park, Kings Island, but also Soak City.”

In addition to experiencing the three-day music festival, park visitors will have an opportunity to ride the world’s longest inverted roller coaster, “Banshee,” which is a major new attraction at Kings Island this summer. A new show, “Cirque Imagine,” and plenty of water fun at Soak City Waterpark are other attractions guests can enjoy. An all-day dining plan is also available for purchase.

“Obviously, it starts with Banshee, the world’s largest inverted roller coaster that has opened to rave reviews this spring. It’s 4,124 feet of track, seven versions, with speeds up to 68 miles per hour,” Helbig said. “It’s a ride from the time you leave the lift hill until you get back into the station. It is non-stop action. Our guests absolutely love it.”

With a diverse and well-known line-up of more than a dozen artists, the festival itself will feature a variety of musical genres from pop and rock to hip hop. Drawing largely on folk and world music influences, Burlap to Cashmere also will kick off its reunion tour at SpiritSong.

To enhance the fan experience this year, the concert’s promoter, Premier Festivals, has contracted to install two giant modular LED screens. The screens will be used to show live feeds of the concerts, video reels from artists during their concerts and music videos during breaks and set changes.

In conjunction with the festival, Premier Festivals recently hosted the SpiritSong Talent Competition. The winner, Graceful Closure, will be the opening performer at SpiritSong. The top five finalists included Graceful Closure, Jimmy Dooley, Elizabeth Walters, The Lasting Hope and The Quest.
