3. 500 Women March Against Heroin in Middletown
Middletown resident Pat Herndon, 67, her good friend, Josephine Gates, 65, and other women have organized what they call: “This Means War! 500 Women March Against Heroin” on Saturday in Middletown.
There will be keynote speakers and marchers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and wear military attire.
In its 11th year, the event not only offers a chance to experience Miami University Natural Areas, but also to raise funds for 4 Paws for Ability, an organization that provides trained service dogs to people with disabilities.
Money will be raised based on the number of miles hiked during the event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 4824 Oxford Road, Oxford. Hikes of one, three and five miles are available for participants, with the goal a total of 2,000 miles hiked that day.
