Chrissy Teigen’s food exchange takes social distancing to a new level

Ever traded food using a children's toy car? Personally, it’s never even occurred to me, but these unprecedented circumstances call for extraordinary measures.

When Springfield native John Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, ran out of romaine lettuce this week, she turned to Twitter for help. “I’ll make a banana bread for anyone that has romaine lettuce. The trade will be made 6 feet apart and we will place the goods on the floor. no funny business.”

Comedian and Youtuber Chris Klemens came to the rescue, replying to Teigan’s tweet with a photo of himself holding a bag of romaine hearts.

The tradeoff was arranged. Legend, Teigen and Klemens would meet up in a church parking lot. After realizing she only had enough ingredients for one loaf of banana bread, they settled the deal for half a loaf, along with two slices of pie, and a bottle of wine.

In order to comply with social distancing rules, Legend hilariously brought their children’s red toy car to exchange “the goods.” Giving the car a little shove, it glided safely to Klemens, who loaded up the coveted bag of romaine lettuce on a bed of ice and sent it back to the celebrity couple.

The entire exchange was filmed by Teigen in her Instagram stories and shared to Twitter here.

All's well that ends well. Teigen got her romaine and Klemens got some treats and a great story! Klemens tweeted in summation: "Thank you all for your unwavering support over the course of this saga. We made it @chrissyteigen."
