Dayton’s Macy’s Backstage could get new merchandise faster

Macy’s today is launching a new distribution center in Ohio for its Backstage brand.

The Backstage off-price concept opened its first area store at the Dayton Mall Macy’s last year. The store is 1,300 square feet and renovation work was valued at $75,000, according to Montgomery County records.

The new distribution center opening at 1661 Rail Court North in Columbus is expected to “expedite merchandise to the 200 plus Backstage locations nationwide and is vital to the continued expansion of Macy’s off-price business,” according to a statement from the retailer.

The 674,000-square-foot facility has added about 400 jobs to the region and will add another 400 seasonal positions during the holidays. Positions are still open at macysJOBS.com.

The Backstage stores offer traditional Macy’s brands along with others not available in the full-line store. Each location is tailored to the community it is in.

The stores sell clothes, accessories, housewares, home and textiles decor, cosmetics, hair and nail care, gifts, jewelry, shoes, designer handbags and active wear.
