Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez tied one record and broke two more Wednesday with his 48th home run of the season.

In the series finale against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Suarez hit a home run in the fourth inning to give the Reds a 1-0 lead. He joined Mike Schmidt (1980) and Adrian Beltre (2004) as the only National League third baseman to hit 48 home runs in a season. The big-league record for home runs by a third baseman is 52 and was set by Alex Rodriguez in 2007.

Suarez passed Andres Galarraga (1996) for most home runs in a season by a player from Venezuela and broke Ted Kluszewski's 1954 club record for home runs in the second half of a season.
