He joined Mike Schmidt (1980) and Adrian Beltre (2004) as the only National League third baseman to hit 48 home runs in a season. The big-league record for home runs by a third baseman is 52 and was set by Alex Rodriguez in 2007.
Suarez passed Andres Galarraga (1996) for most home runs in a season by a player from Venezuela and broke Ted Kluszewski's 1954 club record for home runs in the second half of a season.

Suarez leads Major League Baseball with 28 home runs since the All-Star break. Through four innings Tuesday, he was one home run behind National League leader Pete Alonso, of the New York Mets.
