HS Roundup 3/31: Wayne’s Brown, Robertson get MVP at Tri-Cities Classic

Zarik Brown and Taylor Robertson were named meet MVPs at the Tri-Cities Track Classic held in Johnson City, TN.

Wayne won both the boys and girls overall titles, scoring 126 and 116 points respectively.

Brown set a meet record in the 200m dash, completing the event in 21.87 seconds, while Roberston won the 100m hurdle and triple jump.

Justin Harris also set a meet record, finishing the 110m hurdle with a time of 14.41 seconds.

Kaya Stargel won the 300m hurdle honors for the girls.

Baseball

Halifax County 4, Butler 0: Carter Peck had a double in the losing effort for Butler.

Kenton Ridge 9, Marysville 8: Garrett Kelly’s two RBIs and double led Kenton Ridge offensively in their win. Pitcher Calvin Dilbert added on two doubles.

Lebanon 5, Fairfield 0: Aided by Bo Wilson’s efforts on the mound, A.J. Fritz’s three RBIs and 3-for-3 record at bat helped in the Lebanon shutout over Fairfield. Tyler Inloes tacked on two RBIs, batting 2-for-2.

Northeastern 10, Emmanuel Christian 0: Garrett Peters blanked EC from the mound, striking out seven. Connor Obee tallied two RBIs and a double.

Northeastern 12, Emmanuel Christian 1: Alex Lockwood went 3-for-3 from the plate, tallying a home run, two double and two RBIs as Northeastern’s winning pitcher.

Russia 7, New Bremen 2: Jack Dapore tallied two runs in the Russia victory. Hunter Cohee tacked on one run and one RBI, winning on the mound. Bryce Bickle scored for New Bremen. Russia took the second game of the double header, 5-0.

Tri-County North 9, Valley View 3: Collin Whipp tallied two runs and three RBIs in the six run victory over Valley View. Jacob Isaacs tacked on two runs and an additional RBI.

Tri-County North 10, Valley View 8: Collin Whipp and Jacob Isaac each tallied three runs in TCN’s second win of the double header. Chandler Sproles knocked in two runs of his own.

West Liberty-Salem 8, Indian Lake 4: Trevor Burden’s 3 RBIs, one double and one single helped West Liberty-Salem to their first win of the season. Tyler Jones went 2-for-3 at the plate, tacking on an RBI in the win.

Softball

Badin 4, Colerain 3: Maddie Curtner tallied an RBI, batting 2-for-3 in the Badin win. Emma Kent and Nicole Rawlings split duties on the mound, as Kent came up with the win and Rawlings earned the save.

Ben Logan 10, Lehman Catholic: Kayla Martin pitched a shutout, earning the win in her first varsity start. Grace Deardurff knocked out a two-run homerun to aid Ben Logan. Haley Wilson tacked on two runs of her own.

Eaton 8, Coldwater 1: Annika Gels allowed only two hits and struck out 12 batters For Eaton in the win. Gels tacked on two RBIs, a double and went 2-for-4 from the plate. Becca Mowen added on a double and an RBI.

Ross 4, Badin 0: Kenzie Meyer blanked Badin with 10 strikeouts in the win. Kaitlyn Justice went 2-for-3 at bat.

Tecumseh 20, Xenia 5: Ashley Fite earned the shutout for Tecumseh, striking out six batters, amassing five RBIs, four runs, one homerun, one triple, one double and one single in the win. Logan Markstrom tacked on five runs, four RBIs, a triple and a double.

Tecumseh 13, Xenia 5: Ashley Fite’s offensive power continued, leading with six RBIs, four runs and three homeruns. Logan Markstrom chipped in three runs and a homerun, while Abby O’Bryant led from the mound, striking out six.

Track & Field

Northmont Invitational: The Carroll Boys came in first place. Aaron Cooper placed first in the high jump, setting a meet record. Sam Janson took first in the 400m dash and second in the 100m. The Carroll girls finished sixth overall, led by Elizabeth Zedaker, who took first in the high jump. Troy took first in the girls competition.

Tecumseh Invitational: Miami East took first by over 60 points in the boys competition, while Tecumseh took home the girls. Kaityln Mack won the girls 300m hurdles for Miami East. Tecumseh’s Garrett Gemmaka finished first in the boys 1600m.

Tipp City Invitational: Anna took home first for the boys, netting 111 points on the day. West Liberty-Salem led the girls with 132.5 points. Grace Holms won the girls 1600m for Springfield Shawnee, while WLS’s Katelyn Stapleton took second. Deyon Brown won the 100m dash for Middletown.

Tri-Cities Classic: Wayne took home the championship for both boys and girls competition. Zarik Brown and Taylor Roberston were named MVPs of the meet. Justin Harris set a meet record for the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.41 seconds. Kaya Stargel won the girls 300m hurdles with a 47.01.

Versailles Invitational: The West Liberty-Salem boys team placed fifth overall with 75 points. Dunbar, Versailles and Arcanum took the top honors respectively. Raiph LeVan took first in the 400m dash for WLS, while Konner Smith placed second in the pole vault.
