Prep football roundup: Ross topples Edgewood, hands Cougars first loss

Jackson Gifford had a touchdown run and L.J. Neumaier kicked a field goal for Ross High School’s football team Friday night as the Rams stunned visiting Edgewood 10-6 at Robinson Field.

Ross never trailed and evened its record at 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Southwest Ohio Conference, while the Cougars suffered their first defeat and fell to 5-1, 2-1.

Alex Gavern had a scoring run for Edgewood, which got 65 yards on 15 carries from Elijah Williams.

Dylan Caldwell collected 93 yards on 30 rushes for the Rams. Casey Redemeier added a fumble recovery and Owen Severance contributed an interception to the winning effort.

Madison 64, Dixie 8: Cameron Svarda ran for three touchdowns for the host Mohawks, who stormed to a 52-0 halftime lead.

Madison didn’t throw a pass all night. Evan Crim and Mason Whiteman both scored twice, with Whiteman returning an interception for a TD. Logan Gibson and Logan Jordan each chipped in a touchdown.

The Mohawks, ranked second in the latest Division V state poll, are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division. The Greyhounds are 1-5, 1-2.

Fenwick 57, McNicholas 26: Jack Fessler rumbled to 279 yards and five touchdowns on 24 carries for the visiting Falcons, who moved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Greater Catholic League Coed North Division.

Logan Miller and Davis Tanaka added TD runs for Fenwick, which erased a 14-0 deficit. Sully Janeck passed for 220 yards and a touchdown to Jordan Rucker.

Miller also intercepted two passes for the Falcons. The Rockets are 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the GCLC Central Division.

Lakota East 41, Oak Hills 3: The visiting Thunderhawks rushed for 334 yards and averaged 7.4 yards per carry, getting 115 yards and three touchdowns on 16 runs from quarterback Sean Church.

Corey Dick, Donny Wilkinson and Salah Rammouz also scored for East, which totaled four interceptions.

The Thunderhawks are 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Greater Miami Conference. The Highlanders fell to 3-3, 1-3.

Colerain 48, Hamilton 6: Visiting Big Blue avoided the shutout with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Keyshawn Stephens to Jamar Matthews.

Stephens gained 64 yards on 24 carries for Hamilton, which dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the GMC. Colerain (6-0, 4-0), the top-ranked Division I team in Ohio, totaled 368 yards on the ground.

New Miami 35, St. Bernard 0: David Cunningham gained 97 yards on 11 carries and led the host Vikings with 13 total tackles.

Also for New Miami, Trey Robinette threw for 109 yards and a touchdown to Deanza Duncan, Dylan Spivey and Dalton Garrett combined for 100 rushing yards and two TDs, and Danny Spivey added a scoring run and 62 yards on seven rushes.

The Vikings are 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the Miami Valley Conference Gray Division. St. Bernard is 1-5, 0-1.

Franklin 21, Preble Shawnee 14: Senior linebacker Matt Centers cracked the 400-tackle mark for his career and became Franklin's all-time leading tackler in the home victory.

Centers had 11 tackles, having started the night tied for Nate Woods at 397 for the program’s top spot.

Gage Johnson and Braden Woods had touchdowns for the Wildcats (2-4). Shawnee dropped to 1-5.

Harrison 43, Talawanda 35: The host Braves ran off 28 straight points in the fourth quarter to cut into a 43-7 deficit, scoring for the final time with 23 seconds left.

Tyler Teeters threw for 254 yards and connected with Kyle Campbell and Luke Richardson for TDs for Talawanda (2-4 overall, 0-2 in the SWOC). Teeters, Terell Wills and Tyler Prater scored a touchdown apiece.

Connor Kinnett completed 25-of-31 passes for 499 yards and five scores for Harrison (3-3, 2-1).

Monroe 37, Eaton 0: The host Hornets rolled to their first win of the year, improving to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the SWBL Southwestern Division. The Eagles fell to 0-6, 0-3.

Northridge 44, Carlisle 12: Dane Flatter scored both touchdowns for the host Indians, who fell to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the SWBL Buckeye Division.

The Polar Bears (3-3, 2-1) put up 502 yards of offense in the victory.

Mason 19, Lakota West 0: The host Firebirds were limited to 6 rushing yards in falling to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the GMC.

Nolan McCormick ran 14 times for 104 yards and a touchdown for the Comets (5-1, 4-0).

Northmont 49, Lebanon 7: Derrick Allen had a 30-yard touchdown run for the visiting Warriors, who fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference National West Division.

Miles Johnson threw for 356 yards and three TDs for the Thunderbolts (5-1, 1-0).
