Marissa Wenzler, a Centerville High School graduate who’s now a junior at the University of Kentucky, advanced to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Wednesday.

Wenzler, an Ohio state champion in 2018, defeated Rachel Kuehn, a junior at Wake Forest, 1 up at Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y. Kuehn was the No. 1 seed in the round of 64, and Wenzler was the No. 64 seed.

Kuehn won medalist honors in stroke play Wednesday by shooting 6-under (71-67—138). No medalist has won the tournament since 2008.

Wenzler, who shot 6-over (78-72—150) in stroke play, won one of the last two qualifying spots in a 12-golfer playoff.

Kuehn was 2 up through five holes. Wenzler lost only one hole the rest of the way, tying the match on No. 9 and taking the lead on No. 11.

Wenzler will face No. 32 seed Hailey Borja, a junior at the University of Michigan, on Thursday. The match starts at 7 a.m.
