Burley leads Mohawks to extra innings win

Madison’ Austin Burley used his arm and his bat to lead the Mohawks to their second straight win, knocking off Deer Park 5-4 in 9 innings on Tuesday. Burley, who netted the win on the mound, came through in extra innings with an RBI single to drive in Saige Micomonaco for the game-winner. Madison needed a comeback in the bottom of the seventh to even force extras. Micomonaco had an RBI double and Randy Davis added an RBI single in the frame to tie the game at 4 after 7 innings.

Lebanon 1, Edgewood 0: Wes Noble blanked visiting Edgewood on a 6-hitter, racking up 11 strikeouts. The only run came in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Christian Steele that knocked in Drew Perduk.

SOFTBALL

West Carrollton 12, Carlisle 11: Freshman Madison Mills belted a three-run home run, drove in 5 runs, and picked up her first win as the Pirates survived a back-and-forth affair. In a game that saw seven lead changes, West Carrollton's Brooke Jewell ended it with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that plated Abby Tincher for the game-winner. Jewell also homered and double twice earlier in the contest, driving in a total of 4 runs. Carlisle was led by Morgan Glover who had three hits and an RBI, and Lilli Collins added a pair of singles and 2RBIs.

Badin 3, Mt. Notre Dame 2: Stephanie Clark picked up the win and Danielle Ray recorded the save. Clark, Crystal Rains, and Shelby Schmitt each had two hits for the Rams (1-1).

Madison 10, Brookville 7: Joey Brinegar launched a home run and had 2 RBIs for Madison. Natalie Higgins added three hits. Jamie Winterbotham had three hits, including a triple for Brookville (1-1).

Monroe 16, New Miami 6: Alexis Arnold smacked a home run and drove in three to even Monroe's record at 1-1. Sarah Eschmeyer chipped in a pair of doubles and added 3 RBIs as well.

Fairfield 9, Van. Butler 1: Kellyn Hoffert struck out 9 as Fairfield improves to 2-0. Kate Bartolovich and Ashlynn Roberts each had three hits. Roberts and Sydney Wyatt each drove in 3 runs.
