Goodpaster, Heintzman, Schulz top All-Area baseball honorees

Three of the area’s best prep baseball squads this season are represented with top honorees on the 2016 Journal-News All-Area Baseball Team.

Carlisle junior shortstop Adam Goodpaster is the Position Player of the Year after hitting .502 with a .566 on-base percentage.

Goodpaster had six doubles, two triples, 21 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and 31 runs. He also went 3-1 with a 3.72 earned run average and two saves on the mound, totaling 29 strikeouts in 26.1 innings.

Badin senior Logan Heintzman, a Campbell University signee, is the Pitcher of the Year after going 8-2 with a 1.43 ERA.

Heintzman struck out 63 batters in 63.2 innings and recorded four tournament victories. He tossed an eight-hitter in a Division II state semifinal win over Poland Seminary.

Fairfield’s Tony Schulz is the Coach of the Year after directing his team to a share of the Greater Miami Conference championship (with Mason), their first GMC crown since 2001.

The Indians were 19-7 overall and 14-4 in the conference this season. They had not finished above .500 in the GMC since 2010.

Fairfield is 50-33 in three seasons under Schulz.
