Swimming: Former Middletown, Edgewood standouts to compete at NCAA Championships

Former area swim standouts Mark Andrew and Zach Apple will both compete in three events at the NCAA Swim Championships beginning Thursday in Indianapolis.

Andrew, a sophomore at Pennsylvania, qualified in the 200-yard individual medley, 400 IM and 200 butterfly. He won the Ivy League championship in the 200 IM.

Apple, a sophomore at Auburn, qualified in the 50, 100 and 200 free. He was a finalist in the 50 and 100 free at the Southeastern Conference championship.

Andrew and Apple were both 2016 Olympic Trials qualifiers. They were teammates on the Greater Miami Valley YMCA Wahoo swim team in Middletown.

Prelims in the 200 IM and 50 free begin Thursday at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
