Former Dragons reliever named to East All-Stars

Relief pitcher Ariel Hernandez on Tuesday was the only Dayton Dragons member to be named to the East team for the 52nd Midwest League All-Star Game to be hosted by the Cedar Rapids Kernels on June 21.

Hernandez (0-1) had a 2.59 ERA in 18 appearances with the Dragons. He was assigned to the Daytona Tortugas of the high Class A Florida State League on Monday. His status as a MWL All-Star since being assigned to the Tortugas wasn’t addressed in a release.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native was signed by the San Francisco Giants as an international free agent in September 2008. The Reds signed Hernandez in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft this past offseason, according to RedsMinorLeagues.com.

The Dragons were scheduled to begin a three-game series at the South Bend Cubs on Tuesday night.
