Area product keys MSJ defense

Konnor Blevins is leading a large contingent of local players on the College of Mount St. Joseph's football roster.

Blevins, a sophomore linebacker and Lakota West High School graduate, has a team-best 25 total tackles for the Lions, who are 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Junior Tyler Breh (Edgewood) is a starting offensive guard for MSJ. The other local players with statistics thus far are:

Junior nose tackle Russell Turner (Fairfield), who has 15 tackles; junior wide receiver Nick Kaminsky (Fairfield), who has three catches for 35 yards; freshman defensive tackle Tim Bowman (Lakota East), who has 13 tackles and two tackles for loss; sophomore wide receiver John Peters (Lakota West), who has one reception for 16 yards and a touchdown; and freshman linebacker Anthony LaRubbio (Lakota East), who has one assist.

Women’s golf

The DePauw Small College Classic was held over the weekend at the par-72 Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Ind., and DePauw won with 662 strokes.

Wittenberg was second in the 11-team field with a 669 total. Tigers sophomore Rachel Steiner (Lakota West) shot 89-81—170 and tied for 10th place.

Mount St. Joseph was seventh in the standings and got local contributions from freshman Christen Riedl (Lakota West), who tied for 49th with a 105-91—196 score, and senior Whitney Mueller (Badin), who tied for 62nd with a 110-96—206 total.

Franklin College was the No. 8 team, boosted by the efforts of freshman Hayley Tiberghein (Fairfield). She was 39th with a score of 96-93—189.

Cross country

Sophomore J.J. Webber (Lakota West) took almost 15 seconds off his personal-best effort and helped the Northern Kentucky men place sixth in Florida's Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 15 in Gainesville, Fla.

Webber finished eighth in the 8K race with a time of 24:56.69. Norse freshman Brady Holmer (Lakota West) was 40th with a personal-record time of 26:29.75.
