College Insider: Fenwick’s Sennett key defensive player for 2-0 Butler

Luke Sennett has made major contributions to Butler University’s 2-0 start on the football field this season.

The redshirt junior safety and Fenwick High School graduate leads the Bulldogs in total tackles with 19 (12 solos, seven assists) and has started both games.

Redshirt junior linebacker Ryan Perkins (Lebanon) has also seen some action for Butler, which defeated Youngstown State 23-21 and Taylor 31-17.

The Bulldogs will host Princeton on Saturday at 6 p.m.

• Akron senior place-kicker/punter Nick Gasser was named Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday after his performance last Saturday in the Zips’ season-opening 41-7 win over visiting Morgan State.

Gasser was 2-of-3 on field goals and 4-of-4 on extra points. He also dropped a 47-yard punt inside the 20-yard line.

Akron will travel to Northwestern on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

• Redshirt senior wide receiver Tyler Denton (Hamilton) has nine receptions for 136 yards and a touchdown for Tiffin, which is unbeaten after wins over Northwood (40-27) and Mercyhurst (24-20).

Redshirt sophomore defensive end Cameron Fox (Talawanda) has contributed one solo tackle and two assists for the Dragons, who will visit Alderson Broaddus (W.Va.) for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener Saturday at noon.

Women's soccer: Senior defender Kacy Eckley (Mount Notre Dame) of Liberty Township has scored a goal and sophomore defender Katie Shaffer (Monroe) has one assist for Eastern Kentucky, which has a 4-4 record.

The Colonels will begin Ohio Valley Conference play at 4 p.m. on Friday against visiting Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

• Senior forward Evie Stepaniak (Lakota West) has two goals for Indiana East and is tied for the team lead in that category.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Visse (Badin) has played in one game for the Red Wolves (3-1-1). She did not allow a goal in 11 minutes and 33 seconds of action.

IU East will travel to Cincinnati Clermont on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Volleyball: Sophomore middle blocker Madison Moore (Fairfield) has 52 kills and ranks second in total blocks with 17 for Findlay, which is 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

The Oilers will be at home against Ohio Dominican on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
