Dayton’s Malott, Hoover selected in WNBA draft

Weeks after leading the Flyers to their first Elite Eight berth, two University of Dayton women’s basketball players heard their names called Thursday in the WNBA Draft.

The Washington Mystics selected Dayton senior Ally Malott with the eighth pick in the first round. Another Dayton senior, Andrea Hoover, was taken with the 31st overall pick in the third round by the Los Angeles Sparks. They are the first two UD women’s basketball players ever taken in the WNBA Draft.

The Middletown Madison graduate Malott, a 6-foot-4 forward, averaged 15.5 points and 7.8 rebounds last season.

Malott ranks sixth in UD history with 1,504 points.

The 5-9 guard Hoover, of Spring Valley Academy, led the Flyers with 17.4 points per game. She averaged 3.2 assists and 6.3 rebounds. She finished her career with 1,838 points, ranking fourth in UD history.
