The Reds on Thursday announced the signing of former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings.

The free agent was signed to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training, which opens Monday in Goodyear, Ariz. when pitchers and catchers report. Position players report Feb. 16.

Jennings will make $1.5 million if he makes the team and can earn up to $1 million more in incentives for games played, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reported .

Jennings, 30, spent all seven of his seasons with the Rays. The right-handed batter has a career batting average of .245 in 567 games and he’s played all three outfield positions. The Rays released him last August.
