The first player to take an at-bat for the Cincinnati Reds in 2018 won’t be Billy Hamilton.

Reds manager Bryan Price posted his Opening Day lineup Friday morning with rookie Jesse Winker in the leadoff spot.

Hamilton, the speedy center fielder who has had trouble getting on base consistently in his four-plus major-league seasons, is batting ninth — behind pitcher Homer Bailey.

Eugenio Suarez is playing third base and batting second with first baseman Joey Votto in the three-hole.

Scooter Gennett will play second base and bat cleanup followed by right fielder Scott Schebler, catcher Tucker Barnhart, shortstop Jose Peraza, Bailey and Hamilton.

Price is scheduled to talk to reporters in the Reds clubhouse prior to the game, and his first big lineup decision of the year is sure to be a topic of conversation.

Winker is expected to play extensively this season, but his presence in the Opening Day lineup is a bit of a surprise since Schebler and Adam Duvall were the regulars most of last season.

Duvall was an All-Star two years ago and has put together back-to-back 30-homer seasons.
