  • Not all of its uses are illicit, but experts say child pornography and the sale of drugs, firearms and stolen credit card information are among the more common types of illegal activities.
  • It does have some less nefarious uses. In countries where information is tightly controlled, for example, the dark web has been used to circumvent censorship tools deployed by the government.
