1. Four people found dead
Three females and one male in the same family were discovered dead after a family member called 911 at about 9:40 p.m. on Sunday night.
They lived together in an apartment at the Lakefront at West Chester apartments, and police said all suffered apparent gunshot wounds.
2. Many questions left unanswered
Police say they are looking for a suspect, but chief Joel Herzog said he didn’t believe anyone in the West Chester Twp. community was in danger.
The man who called 911 to report the incident was frantic and said he came home to find his wife and family on the ground bleeding. That caused a large police response to the apartment complex.
The number of dead makes this one of the most violent single incidents in Butler County in recent memory.
Some questions that need to be answered include:
• Who are the deceased?
• Who killed them?
• How exactly did they die?
• Why were they killed?
3. Neighbors express shock incident happened in otherwise quiet area
“I wouldn’t expect something like this to happen out here in West Chester,” said Charles Johnson, who lives at the Lakefront at West Chester apartment complex on Wyndtree Drive.
Another resident, who did not want to be identified, said she was out of town last night and that returning to find out the incident happened was shocking."They are not giving too much information. We pay too much money here to not feel safe," she said.
4. Religious leaders say family attended Sikh temple in West Chester
Jasminder Singh, president of the executive committee from Guru Nanak Society Sikh Gurudwara Sahib of Greater Cincinnati, said he has known the man killed at the the Lakefront at West Chester apartment complex Sunday night for 11 years.
“He was a great friend, he was a great dad, he was a great grandfather and he was a great husband,” Singh said.
5. Worst shooting incident in West Chester since 2003
On Nov. 6, 2003, Tom West, then 50, walked into his former employer, Watkins Motor Lines, 6431 Centre Park Drive, carrying two handguns. He opened fire and then fled the scene.
He killed two men and injured three more during the shooting rampage. West’s attorneys said he had deep-seated paranoia. They said West believes Watkins was poisoning his food and planting bugs inside him.
