West Chester offering free “no soliciting” stickers for residents

West Chester Twp. is providing free window decals to residents who wish to curb the number of door-to-door solicitors appearing at their homes.

The West Chester board of trustees recently approved a resolution which limits the times for door-to-door sales to between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. May through September; and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. October through April.

Vendors are still required to register with the West Chester Police Department prior to canvassing neighborhoods and the resolution does not prohibit youth fundraisers or other non-profit organizations.

The resolution prohibits solicitation at any residence where a “no solicitation” sign, decal, or other lawful display is exhibited. Officials said it is important to note that “no solicitation” signs at the entrances to subdivisions and neighborhoods cannot be enforced.

Individual homes must be designated “no solicitation” in order for the Police Department to take action. Transient vendors found in violation of resolution will be guilty of a minor misdemeanor.

Residents with "no solicitation" signs visible at their doorways who receive contact from a transient vendor at their door, should gather information and description from the vendor and report to West Chester Police at 513-777-2231.

Residents are welcome to display their own signs or may obtain a free window cling provided by the township. These clings are available at the West Chester Township Hall, the West Chester Police Department, West Chester Community Development, Midpointe Library West Chester and The West Chester Activity Center during regular business hours.
