Here are five things to know about the new facility:

1. It’s meant to care for someone for a REALLY long time

“We are trying to provide women’s services across the continuum of their lifespan,” Victor DiPilla, Christ Hospital Health Network’s vice president and chief business development officer.

“Obviously, the delivery portion is oriented toward a younger female, but as their healthcare needs change, we are designing our care to be able to meet all their requirements, whether that be cardiac, orthopedic, endocrinology, whatever that would be.”

That’s the kind of virtual center Christ Hospital Health Network is putting into play at all of its facilities, DiPilla said.

“That’s true of not just women but it’s kind of a focus for us, in general,” he said.

2. The state-of-the-art birthing center takes up an entire floor

All rooms on the third floor are Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum rooms and built to function as such. Amenities unique to the center include extra-large showers with seats to allow mothers and fathers in the shower during the birthing experience, Hayes said.

“It’s really meant to be a spa-like experience,” she said.

Also in place are kitchen amenities, such as a microwave, coffee maker and mini-refrigerator and digital features, including a BabyGiggles app that will allow mothers and families to get their education in a mobile way, Hayes said. A full-service nursery offers private rooms for moms and babies.

3. The birthing center includes more than just birthing rooms

Expression and More gift shop in the reception area of the birthing center allows parents and families to purchase items for the mother and baby before they go home. that includes stuffed animals, board books, nursing bras and more. A lactation clinic right next door allows mothers to return to the medical facility to get breastfeeding assistance.

There’s also a viewing room to allow families to view a mother’s Caesarean section.

4. It’s not the end of development for the medical center or the property

Coming to the facility by spring are gardens, walking paths, a gazebo and several outdoor physical therapy areas.

Expansion of the facility is possible because the health network owns a “significant portion of land” around the interchange, Hayes said.

“There is opportunity to expand in several different directions with the facility, depending on the community needs,” she said.

5. The facility is backed by an award-winning track record

Christ Hospital Health Network has been recognized by National Research Corporation as providing excellent care for 21 consecutive years, DiPilla said.

“We’ve been recognized as having the best medical staff, the best nursing staff,” he said. “We’re a magnet organization, we have exceptional outcomes, and as a result, there is a fairly significant amount of interest by the community to be receiving their health care with our system.”
