“Sometimes we think things need to be fun,” she said. “Sometimes there are not-so-good things going on in the world and we want to lighten the mood.”
What that major park news will be won’t be released until Tuesday, she said, but confirmed there won’t be any lights, yet, erected at the VOA MetroPark.
“We have an awful lot of good things happening in Butler County and at MetroParks in particular,” Barkley said.
The alleged mysterious activity is surrounding the park’s Voice of America Multipurpose Field and Athletic Complex, which will feature 22 multipurpose natural grass fields set to open this fall. The grass in the fields was planted in the fall of 2012. The complex has the potential to generate $26 million in annual economic impact for Butler County, according to MetroParks.
A second press release Monday afternoon did not shed any light on the Tuesday announcement. The release continued to play up to the mysterious goings-on at VOA MetroPark.
The news to be announced Tuesdaycomes on the heels of the announcement that MetroParks of Butler County will receive $2 million for two projects, according to the Ohio House’s capital budget bill. Half the money is designated to be invested in the Voice of America Multipurpose Field and Athletic Complex. The remaining $1 million is earmarked for the Middletown River Center. The bill passed the Ohio House last week 89-2.
The money will help MetroParks complete the first phase of the VOA project. The $1 million will be utilized to install synthetic turf on three or four of the nine center multipurpose fields.
