HAMILTON — In her bid for the mayor’s office, Councilwoman Carla Fiehrer said she is focused on building better relationships with local businesses and encouraging new ones to relocate to the city.
“The city of Hamilton must become more business friendly and engage with our business leaders so they can be our main advocate.”
Fiehrer said she would like to see some new ideas and a step-by-step course in place to fulfill a vision that’s defined by the community.
Fiehrer said she is dissatisfied with the city administration’s reorganization and was not in favor of across-the-board budget cuts for all departments.
“I adamantly believe that each department has to be reviewed individually... to assure that the department is performing to the best of its ability.”
In May, Fiehrer voted against cutting all departments equally. She voted in favor of Artspace, a project involving the national nonprofit group to build or renovate a downtown building to give artists a place to live and work.
In looking ahead, Fiehrer said the role of mayor is to make sure the city is moving in the right direction. She said elected officials need to work together and establish goals, then work with city administrators to develop strategies to make the goals a reality.
“My vision for the future of Hamilton is to function as a business with a definite plan in place. Goal-setting provides a framework for city action... Establishing goals will help keep everyone on track.”
