Butler County’s newest budget-conscious option for shopping will bring 20 new jobs with the opening of a Salvation Army Family Thrift Store.
The fourth location of a Family Thrift Store — with proceeds going to operate the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Norwood — celebrates a grand opening Jan. 12 at 7900 Tylersville Square Road near Lowe’s.
“We’ll be hiring 20 positions from the area,” said Major Nancy Beauchamp, administrator at the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center. “There will also be four to five people from our program. Through the work-therapy process they can regain honesty and integrity.”
The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center — located at 2250 Park Avenue, Norwood — can serve as many as 150 individuals daily, including those struggling with alcohol, drugs and other life issues. Beauchamp said adults males can live at the center for as long as six months.
The center is solely funded through proceeds from the thrift stores, Beauchamp said, and not from Red Kettle collections or federal grants. There are also Family Thrift Stores in Norwood, Eastgate and Lexington, Ky.
“At the center we added 50 beds last year; the need is growing and that’s why we need to open more stores,” Beauchamp said.
The store is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The shop includes clothing, furniture, housewares, sports items and anything else that can be donated, according to Beauchamp.
About 4,000 new pieces of clothing will be added daily, Beauchamp said. Every Wednesday at the thrift store is Family Day, with 50 percent off most items.
Donations are accepted during business hours when an employee can provide a tax-deductible receipt. After-hour donations can be left at the store’s outside drop box.
