Police: Teen caught illegally setting off fireworks on hospital security cameras

Police were notified March 16 of a fireworks violation in the vicinity of the parking lot of McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital about 4 p.m. It was caught on an officer’s body-worn camera and later found on hospital security camera footage, according to a police report.

Review of that footage showed a person setting off the fireworks in the north/south alley off of the parking lot. The footage showed a group of people in the south court area of an address on East Withrow Street scatter after the second explosion. The house advisor at that address was shown video of the incident and was able to provide a name.

A 19-year-old Miami student was questioned about it and admitted setting off two bottle rockets which he had purchased in College Corner.

He was charged with possession, sale and use restrictions. He was described as cooperative and up front with the officer.
