Orthopaedic specialists join Mercy Health

The Mercy Health network recently secured a second partnership with a group of orthopaedic specialists in order to increase its orthopaedic offerings in the Tri-State.

Mercy Health will now manage the physicians, physical therapists, trainers and locations of Cincinnati SportsMedicine & Orthopaedic Center (CSMOC). This follows a formal partnership between the hospital network and six locations of Wellington Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine for exclusive services.

“Mercy Health remains committed to providing Cincinnati’s premier orthopaedic program and we’ve invested in growing our team of dedicated orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, physical therapists and athletic trainers all to help Cincinnati be well,” said Yousuf Ahmad, Market President and CEO of Mercy Health.

All seven specialists from CSMOC have joined Mercy Health Physicians, including:

  • Michelle Andrews, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in knee and shoulder surgery. Andrews has received national recognitions including Best Doctors of America, America's Top Orthopedists 2013 and Becker's "125 Outstanding Knee Surgeons" in America. She serves in leadership roles on multiple committees at The Jewish Hospital - Mercy Health and is chair of The Jewish Hospital Total Joint Replacement Center of Excellence Task Force.
  • Matthew Busam, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. Busam is the medical director at his alma mater, Elder High School, and a team physician for the Cincinnati Bengals.
  • Marc Galloway, MD, who specializes in the treatment of sports-related injuries in patients at all levels of competition and in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. Galloway is head team physician for the Cincinnati Bengals and has been included in "Best Doctors in America" list since 1996.
  • Samer Hasan, MD, PhD, a nationally-recognized surgeon specializing in the treatment of shoulder and elbow problems, including arthroscopic repairs for rotator cuff tears. A pioneer of the reverse shoulder replacement, Dr. Hasan is one of the region's most experienced shoulder replacement surgeons.
  • Thomas Lindenfeld, MD, who specializes in sports medicine. He has extensive experience with knee, shoulder and hip surgery, including ligament reconstruction and total joint replacement. Dr. Lindenfeld serves as the team physician for Queen City Gymnastics, and has spent more than 25 years treating elite gymnasts in the Cincinnati area.
  • Frank Noyes, MD, a nationally-recognized knee expert and orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He has authored 250 publications, including textbooks, on knee problems. He is the only surgeon in Cincinnati performing MAKOplasty, a knee resurfacing procedure that relieves pain caused by joint degeneration while sparing healthy bone and ligaments.
  • Mark G. Siegel, MD, a knee expert and orthopaedic surgeon specializing in reconstructive surgery of the knee. He is an expert in both primary and revision knee replacement. He is the only Cincinnati physician providing and performing custom CT scan-designed joint replacement for severe patella femoral arthritis.

All physicians will continue to see patients and perform surgery in their present office locations and surgery centers, which will become Mercy Health locations.

The hospital network will employ the 26 therapists, athletic trainers and physical therapist assistants at these locations: Montgomery, 10663 Montgomery Road; Tri-County, 12115 Sheraton Lane; Mason, 7423 Mason-Montgomery Road; Western Hills, 6350 Glenway Ave.; and Crestview Hills, Ky., 328 Thomas More Parkway.

CSMOC has garnered national recognition for both its sports medicine expertise and Research and Education Foundation. The foundation hosts the annual Advances on the Knee and Shoulder Conference — one of the largest, national annual meetings of orthopaedists, physical therapists, athletic trainers and others to learn about the latest clinical, surgical and rehabilitation recommendations for knee and shoulder problems.

“Mercy Health and Cincinnati SportsMedicine & Orthopaedic Center share a similar ethos,” said Dr. Frank Noyes, orthopaedic surgeon and CEO of Cincinnati SportsMedicine & Orthopaedic Center. “We’re both very active in our communities, giving back to our high schools, local sports organizations, professional sports teams and more to help the people we serve. Together, we can leverage our strengths to do even more for the benefit of the Tri-State area.”
