9-year-old, godmother save 2-year-old who nearly drowned in hotel pool

A 2-year-old boy is alive thanks to a 9-year-old girl and her godmother who noticed the boy had sunk to the bottom of a hotel pool.

The rescue happened in Livonia, Michigan, on Jan. 24, WXYZ reported.

Police recently gave the case to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Video shows the 2-year-old trying to swim in the pool with more than a dozen people either in the pool or in the room. The child isn't able to get in a good position to swim and people don't notice him having trouble, police told WXYZ.

The video shows the child sinking to the bottom of the pool; he was there for about four minutes before the 9-year-old girl notices. She then gets her godmother, who was nearby. The adult jumps in and pulls the 2-year-old out as others call 911.

A nurse's convention was happening at the same hotel and two nurses in attendance started CPR on the child, police said.

The rescue was caught on camera and may be too disturbing for some viewers.

The 2-year-old's mother, police said, was at the pool, but they didn't say why she didn't notice her child having trouble in the water, WXYZ reported.

The 2-year-old was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released, WDIV reported.

The Livonia Police Department has nominated the 9-year-old, her godmother and the nurses for a civilian award for their heroic response.

The Prosecutor's Office could file charges in the case, WXYZ reported.
