Danville Public Schools is opening the truck from 10:30 a.m. through 1 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, the television station reported. Lunches are free for students under 18, while adults will be charged $3.65.

"Food trucks are popular right; they're popular in bigger cities. Well, we're trying to bring that popularity to school nutrition as well," Phillip Gardner, director of child nutrition for the school system, told WDBJ.

Danville Public Schools serves nearly 5,000 school lunches during the school year. School officials paid $42,000 for the food truck, the television station reported.

"It's just the right thing to do. I mean, it's just really a neat, innovative, agile way of meeting a need," Danville school Superintendent Stanley Jones told WDBJ.

During the first week of the summer, the truck has already served 600 meals, the television station reported.
