Trump asks Kim Jong Un to meet at DMZ during his South Korea visit

On Friday evening, President Donald Trump tweeted while in Osaka, Japan that he would like to meet with Kim Jong Un in the Demilitarized Zone to "shake his hand and say Hello(?)!"

Trump is scheduled to fly to South Korea later Saturday after he concludes meetings at the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, Japan, including with the president of China.

On Sunday, the North's state-run news agency reported that, last week, Trump sent North Korean leader Kim Jong Un an “excellent” letter, and quoted Kim as saying he would “seriously contemplate” the content.

Formal talks between the U.S. and North Korea broke down after a failed summit between Kim and Trump in February in Vietnam. But earlier in June Trump told U.S. reporters he received a “beautiful” letter from Kim, without revealing what it said. In an interview with Time magazine, Trump said he also received a “birthday letter” from Kim that was delivered by hand a day before.
