Semitrailer crashes into historic Florida landmark Desert Inn

A semitrailer crashed into the historic Desert Inn on Highway 60 in Yeehaw Junction early Sunday morning, Osceola Fire Rescue officials said.

Firefighters said a jackknifed semitrailer carrying orange juice collided into the front of the building.

Crews who responded to the scene provided care for the driver of the truck, who did not suffer serious injuries, firefighters said. The driver told troopers the area was dark and that he did not realize he had left the road, officials said.

Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol said part of the building collapsed when a tow truck removed the crashed semitrailer from the building.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

The Desert Inn was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1994, according to authorities. It was unoccupied at the time of the crash, officials said.
