Sarah Rohde, 27, was driving a Subaru Impreza on a rural road when a black bear stepped out in front of the vehicle's path, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Sean Fitzgerald told KTXL.

The bear was killed in the collision. Rohde and her daughter Arianna Harris also died. Rohde’s son, Jullian Harris, 4, was in the car and suffered minor injuries.

"A bear in Douglas Flat is not normal," Tracie Weaver, Rohde's mother, told KTXL.

Weaver said her daughter was fearless and a nature lover. A GoFundMe page was set up to help cover funeral and other costs.

Investigators said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the accident.
