After the wedding, Audra Johnson changed from her wedding gown into a reception dress made out of a MAGA flag, Newsweek reported. The dress was designed by Andre Soriano, whose customized "Trump gowns" have appeared during the red carpet walk at the 2017 Grammy Awards, according to WXMI.
Audra Johnson later shared an Instagram photo of herself wearing her reception dress while holding a gun.
Despite the overtly political theme, Audra Johnson said everyone was invited. Her lifelong friend and maid of honor is a Democrat, WXMI reported.
“We were gonna do our photos with the Trump hats, and she said, ‘You know I love you, but I can’t wear the Trump hat,'" Audra Johnson told the television station. "I said, ‘It’s OK. It’s OK. Just wear a red hat. We still love you. We can have completely different opinions about everything and still love each other.”
Jeff Johnson's father was not as accommodating, refusing to attend the wedding, WXMI reported.
"He sent us a text message," Audra Johnson told the television station. "It said, ‘As long as you support that racist in the White House, I won’t be attending your wedding.’ Which is sad, but we did have a lot of people that loved us and showed up.”
As for any criticism she received, Audra Johnson said she had no regrets.
"It looked like America threw up all over my wedding, and I'm not sorry," she told WXMI.
