Thirty-five years ago, Bruce Springsteen sang, “I’m On Fire.” On Tuesday in New Jersey, Springsteen’s son began fighting fires.

Sam Springsteen, 26, son of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, was sworn in as a member of the Jersey City Fire Department along with 14 others, WCBS reported.

The younger Springsteen took a civil service exam in 2017, WCBS reported. He graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy in 2016 and was a volunteer for three different departments, the television station reported.

The Boss was there for his son's graduation, along with Sam Springsteen's mother, Patti Scialfa, WABC reported. However, the singer preferred to remain in the background.

"This is my son's day, so I'm staying out of it," Bruce Springsteen told WABC. "We're very proud. We're very proud. ... It was a long road. He was very dedicated for quite a few years, and we're just excited for him today."

Sam Springsteen is one of 204 new firefighters hired under Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop's administration, NJ.com reported. The mayor met with Bruce Springsteen and Scialfa in his office and posed for pictures. "They're such nice ppl," he tweeted.

Like his father, Sam Springsteen chose to be low-key about his graduation and his famous parents.

“I’m going to take a pass on this one,” he told reporters. “Sorry, folks. I don’t have too much to say.”
