Brother of Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles arrested on murder charge, police say

The brother of Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles was arrested Thursday and charged in a New Year's Eve shooting in Cleveland that left three people dead at an Airbnb party, authorities said.

Tevin Biles-Thomas, 24, of Cleveland, who is on active duty with the U.S. Army, was arrested at Fort Stewart in Georgia, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. A Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted Biles-Thomas on six counts of murder, three counts of voluntary manslaughter, five counts of felonious assault and one count of perjury, WOIO reported.

Killed shortly before midnight Dec. 31, 2018, were Devaughn Gibson, 23, DelVaunte Johnson, 19, Toshon Banks, 21, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner. All died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Plain Dealer reported.

Johnson and Banks were declared dead at the scene. Gibson died at an area hospital, WOIO reported.

A 21-year-old man who was shot in the head and a 23-year-old woman shot in the arm survived, police said.

Biles-Thomas is being held in the Liberty County Jail, the newspaper reported. He will be returned to Ohio and arraigned Sept. 13, in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, the Plain Dealer reported.

"The relentless persistence of Cleveland police homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case," Cuyahoga County Prosecutor O'Malley said in a statement to WKYC. "It is through their hard work that we can begin to seek justice for these victims."

Biles-Thomas attended high school in Cleveland. The shooting happened at an Airbnb rental in Cleveland, police said.

Representatives for Simone Biles did not return messages seeking comment, the Plain Dealer reported.
